Some information about Jamaican Food! Jamaican Food is a mixture of African and Caribbean dishes. Even though people tend to think of our dishes being hot and spicey, which isn't usually the case. Some things can be hot and spicy like the Jerk dishes which is made with a special marinade which include hot chili, but we can also mild it down, most of our dishes are served with rice or rice and beans, which is cooked on cocoanut milk, and patties which are called empanadas in Spanish, cook with chopped meat or chicken or with fish, shrimp or vegetable. The National Dist Ackee can be found in Gauna and some other parts of the Caribbean, but no one is eating it there just in jamaica. In Jamaica we cook the Ackee, and then stir fry them in onions, pepper, and also can be served with salted fish otherwise called stockfish. Very nice as a starter or as a main course, too. |
